before & after: basket and living room face lift…

Happy Monday everyone…. Over the weekend, our  living room received a QUICK  face lift for spring. I threw on some natural couch covers (wrinkly and messy, but who cares? it is summer!) and white sheers on the windows. This painting was done by my Grandmother- so beautiful. I am trying to find a frame so I can hang it in the room… This basket is where we put all our games, but the black was not cutting it. BEFORE: AFTER: Read More

inspiration: vintage grain sack chairs

So after doing my Hershey’s sugar sack pillow I decided to do a little google-ing and see what else I could do with these old grain and sugar sacks from Nana. AND GUESS WHAT? I found chairs! I didn’t think of that at all for some reason, but I am loving the idea. Today I am inspired by these: Jayson Home & Garden Pineapple Court tatteredandtorn.com country home unknown flicr 3finegrains etsy shop I am still in love with my Read More

hersheys sugar pillow…

I AM IN LOVE. I made this pillow yesterday and I REALLY REALLY REALLY like love it. I had these old pieces of canvas from Nathan’s Grandmother that used to be 100lb Hershey’s sugar sacks- that is how they used to buy the sugar. (side note- think of all the good things you can make with 100 lbs of sugar). My mother-in-law gave them to me (thank you!) about a year ago.  I wasn’t quite sure what to do with Read More

Yellow Vintage trunk

No more junk in this trunk! I had to say it. I had this trunk filled with all kinds of crap memory stuff. It sat in my hallway for YEARS- not months. I finally cleaned it out and gave it a face-lift. Because I can. {before} Obviously, I opted for yellow. Because I can. {after} For now it resides in my bathroom- to be filled with towels/linens/more stuff. The trunk will probably change locations in my home 8 times this Read More

a waste of perfectly nice easter eggs…

I tried deviled eggs yesterday because I love them. The smooth and creamy ones please. No relish. I am looking at 2 recipes and the creative me is going to combine them to make the perfect deviled egg. One dozen eggs later, I realize that one recipe was for only 6 eggs. THE ENTIRE BATCH WAS RUINED. Not even my dog would eat them- seriously. But I have some pretty pictures of eggs….so there is that at least…. and for Read More

a tiny nubbin bed…

Ella is 19 months and officially A BIG GIRL (or so she thinks/acts). A month ago we switched her to a toddler bed. I was slightly worried about the switch….and by slightly I mean, I was sure she would be able to get out of bed, open the door, climb over the railing and fall down the stairs. But NOT ELLA- she was all “SO? BIG DEAL..I am in a big girl bed”. She took to it like a champion. Read More

rest my head upon a pillow…

Nathan’s grandmother had one of these calendar tea towels for every year. When she passed last year, I inherited a few. They were all used and stained, but I loved them. I decided to make this one into a pillow- I am no seamstress, but I think it turned out pretty cute AND it is a great memory of Nana. BEFORE: AFTER: cheers! sarah

dining chair - close up after

our dining room chairs {a happy place to put our bums}

I used to have a glass dining room table with chairs that matched and before Ella was born, I sold them because I can’t stand glass. Fast forward 18 months or so. I now have a simple dark dining room table from ikea and I had the brilliant idea to collect misc chairs from yard sales/estate sales/goodwill and re-paint and re-cover them all for my dining room. SUPER. This was an excellent SUMMER project, but it was the dead of Read More
